Greeters

People experience the presence of Christ through the ministry of the Church.  The first task of the parish community is to reach out to all people in Christian love and service.  Christian hospitality draws people together, opens them to participation, and sets the tone for the liturgy.  Every Christian is called to ministry and gifted by the Holy Spirit.  The greeter or Ministry of Hospitality is equipped for this ministry by the grace and gift of the Holy Spirit.  In their welcome and Christ-like attitude, the greeters at Mass ensure that the faithful see and experience the love of Christ.

Those who desire to serve as a greeter should be registered members of the Cathedral Parish.  They should be of good character and reputation.  Respect for others, discretion and appropriate decorum are the hallmarks of a Minister of Hospitality.  The greeter should be comfortable meeting and greeting others.  They must always extend a sense of welcome to others and make them feel at home when they come to Mass.  Men and women as well as teenagers and children are invited to serve as ministers of hospitality by arriving at the Cathedral fifteen minutes before Mass begins and go to one of the five entrances of the Cathedral.  Take your place just outside the doors, or inside in inclement weather,  and welcome the faithful.  Since the main entrance is quite large, there may be a need for more greeters there.  Once Mass begins, greeters take their places in the pew.

If you are interested in being a greeter, or for more information  please call the parish office at 347-9702.
