The purpose of Student Council is to represent and serve the student body of the Cathedral School of St. Jude. The Student Council members are elected positions and meet weekly during school hours.  They sponsor three school dances yearly and participate in multiple community fundraisers.  The 2008-2009 school fundraisers include Alpha House, Make a Wish Foundation, Brighter Day, Ronald McDonald House, and assisting St. Petersburg Catholic High School with a can food drive for needy families at Christmas time.    The Student Council has an accepted constitution and is regulated by the school.

Elected Student Council Positions include:

PRESIDENT: 

  • The President is to run the Student Council meetings.  The President should be prepared to present minutes of each Council meeting to Administration.  President should contact all other council members as to meeting dates and times.

VICE PRESIDENT: 

  • The Vice President’s job is to assist the President in all duties as well as fill in for President when/if they are not able to be present.

SECRETARY: 

  • The Secretary will accurately record all minutes from the Council meetings.  These minutes will then be typed and ready for approval by next meeting.  All minutes should be kept in a binder.  Copies of all minutes should be distributed to Council members before each council meeting.  Any “Thank you” notes or correspondence will be generated by the secretary at the councils’ request.

FINANCE: 

  • The Finance Commissioner will keep an accurate balance of all funds.  The Finance Commissioner should be prepared at each council meeting to give a financial report; how much money was raised, what money is available in the budget, and research into special projects.

SCHOOL SPIRIT: 

  • Through this office all campus/off campus school sponsored events should be promoted.  Promotion can include signs, word of mouth and notices.  All students/teachers should be encouraged to support and attend activities.  Hawk Spirit day should be promoted school wide.

SOCIAL AFFAIRS: 

  • All social events through the school should be promoted through this office.  Dances, dress down days and any other school wide events to be promoted.

PUBLICITY: 

  • All school sponsored events; athletics, social, academics should be promoted.  Many of the council members will work hand in hand with Publicity.  ALL events to receive publicity.  Publicity Commissioner should be prepared to contact the Schools’ newspaper with Student Council projects and upcoming events.

GIRLS ATHLETICS: 

  • All Girls Athletics events to be promoted and attended.  She will work closely with Promotions and School Spirit Coordinator to properly advertise upcoming athletic events.  G.A. should also be prepared to contact the Hawk Talk editor to advise them of upcoming sports events.

BOYS ATHLETICS:

  • All Boys Athletics events to be promoted and attended.  He will work closely with Promotions and School Spirit Coord. to properly advertise upcoming athletic events.  Boys Athletics should be prepared to contact the Hawk Talk editor to advise them regarding upcoming sports events.
